Collaborating with Tchaikovsky

Today I’m orchestrating a song written by a couple of friends of mine, Lowell Alexander and Phil Naish. This is the third such job I’ve done for these guys. They are building a series of songs based on classical melodies. So, today I’m “collaborating” with Tchaikovsky, who wrote the tune for this particular song. The previous songs I worked on were tunes borrowed from Edward Elgar and Richard Wagner.

Not bad company to be keeping, is it?

The work itself is a complete pleasure. I’m arranging for large orchestras and solo singers. No rhythm section. A “lite classical” approach, you could say. Thanks to Lowell and Phil (my buddies) for including me in their project. It’s a blast.
