I spent the past two days cutting tracks for a new contemporary Easter project for Word Music. That’s the strange part about the print music business – we work on seasonal projects about a year ahead of the time the music will actually be used. The lead time is shorter for anthems – only a few months.
For this project, my friend, Tony Wood, wrote almost all the lyrics. The music comes from a handful of his co-writers, including Yours Truly. The songs are very much in the P&W vein – but because Tony wrote the words – the songs are all actual real songs. They have multiple verses or stanzas that all match. And a chorus that goes with the verses. The songs actually say something other than “I love how i love you, Lord.” Thanks – Tony.
We cut the choir tomorrow. The orchestra won’t happen for a couple of weeks. I’m writing the orhcestra parts to fit what the rhythm section played.
When it’s done – it should be a fairly contemporary project – at least in the light of what’s happening in choral music.
