Christ Arose (w/ Christ the Lord Is Risen Today)

This new musical setting of Robert Lowry’s well-known hymn text first appeared in the 2007 Easter cantata, I’VE SEEN JESUS (Word Music), from Deborah Craig-Claar and me. The cantata has disappeared, but I always liked this song. And so, I’ve brought it back for my Legacy Anthem series.

In this rendition, I’ve connected “Christ Arose” with another Easter favorite, “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today.” Together, they make a powerful statement. (And one that needn’t be sung only at Easter, by the way.)

With an “Orchestra Rock” sound, this is definitely an anthem for church choirs leaning toward the “blended/contemporary” sound. It’s hip enough to engage Millennial choir members, but grounded enough to connect with Boomers.
