In Life - Debriefed, Thank yous

Cindy and I have just finished a fantastic weekend with two great churches in the Phoenix area. 1st Southern Baptist Church of Scottsdale and 1st Baptist Church of Chandler joined musical forces for two concerts featuring Christmas music I’ve written and arranged over the past thirty years.

L to R: Kevin, Robert & Keith

What a privilege and pleasure it was for me to direct these two fine choirs and orchestras as they presented their Christmas concerts to their churches. Under the able direction of Keith Matney (FSBC Scottsdale) and Kevin Fryrear (FBC Chandler), we presented ten Christmas anthems and two orchestra pieces. My better half, Cindy, sang two songs with me at the piano.

I can’t say thanks enough for all the hard work and dedication that went in to┬áthe making of these concerts. The two choirs, along with their instrumentalists and children’s choirs, have rehearsed separately and jointly since early autumn. Lucky me – I got to come come in after all the hard work was done and lead these wonderful folks in concert.

Thanks also for all the sweet hospitality shown to Cindy and me the entire time we were there. We ate too much, shared some great laughs, and made a lot new friends.

I’ve said it often, and I’ll say it again: It is churches just like these that give my music a voice. Without them, it’s nothing more than notes on paper.

Thank you Keith and Kevin. Thank you Kathy and Rosie (their lovely wives). And thanks to every singer and instrumentalist that made this weekend possible.

My only question is – So what are we doing for Christmas next year???

    Robert (and Cindy):

Thank you for a great weekend in Arizona! It was an amazing blessing to sing under your direction (for the second time); we have heard awesome comments from both performances. We so appreciate that you give 150% to the effort – the outcome shows your skills, talent and dedication to your craft. Regardless of your self description, we think you are funny (in a dry sense of humor way) and fun! We enjoy hearing the stories that come out of your creative undertakings and experiences! It was a pleasure to meet Cindy – what a sweet lady, and what a voice! Thanks again for helping make our Christmas “Sterling”! Merry Christmas from Arizona to you and yours!

    Robert and Cindy,
We are very grateful for the privilege to meet you and then experience what turned out to be such a memorable weekend! God has truly gifted you and it was a joy to be a part of this joint ministry of music! Cindy is a doll and I so enjoyed every moment we had to visit and sing. Our wonderful choirs and orchestra got to be a part of something out of the ordinary and we were graced with you and your wonderful music and our churches got to see how much fun it was to something together. The highlight were those beautiful children singing with the choir. So touching, and then hearing the rich voice of Cindy singing too was the icing on the cake!
Thank you again for how you led us, for blessing our two churches. Perhaps we can do this again, it truly was so much fun. Have a beautiful Christmas! May God continue to give you the inspiration to write for His church! Kevin and Rosie Fryrear—FBC Chandler

To say this was an awesome experience just doesn’t do it justice. Thank you Pastors Keith and Kevin for setting it up and making sure we knew our parts. Thank you Robert and Cindy for lending us your special talents for a weekend. Thank you to all the musicians who made it happen. And thank you to the people behind the scenes (lights, sound, video). An opportunity like this doesn’t come along often, and I was privileged to be a part of it.

My wife and I had the honor of attending this great musical night in Chandler, I especially like the “Little Drummer Boy” rendition. So many times it is not given the right presentation, but yours was one of my favorites. A great night for us both and we thank you for using your skills and talents in presenting this great program. God Bless!

Thx for the kind words, Ron. “The Little Drummer Boy” is one of my personal favorites – and my time in Arizona this Christmas was wonderful. The folks in Chandler and Scottsdale were great – and i totally enjoyed working with the combined choirs and orchestras of FBC Chandler and FSBC Scottsdale.
