I returned to my alma mater, Baylor, last week to participate in a board meeting for the newly formed Center for Christian Music Studies. It was an exciting prospect. Baylor is setting out to create a program that will provide resources, study, information – you name it – for Christian musicians. The board is made up of musicians, educators, and music-loving business people – all who want to see the Baylor School of Music leap into the forefront of Christian Music studies. Baylor is already home to a well-respected Church Music program (offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Church Music). This new program will operate alongside the Church Music program, and hopefully be a beacon for quality Christian music – regardless the musical genre. I’m looking forward to seeing where this will lead.
