MORE NEW MUSIC FOR CHURCH ORCHESTRAS – Part 2: Christmas!

first-baptist-church-of-dallas-campus-PLAZARecently, I blogged here about writing music for the plaza fountain at 1st Baptist Church, Dallas (you can find that here) Well, that was just the beginning.

As Christmas approached last year, FBC asked me to create four arrangements of Christmas carols for the fountain. I was happy to do so. They chose four favorites: Adeste Fideles; Hark! The Herald Angels Sing; Joy to the World; O Holy Night. The idea was to stick with Christmas carols everybody knows – especially the un-churched folks who might pass by the fountain on the street.

Like the four non-seasonal hymn arrangements that preceded them, these Christmas carols are scored for a full traditional orchestra: woodwinds, brass, percussion, harp, and strings. The arrangements are somewhat lighter than their non-seasonal counterparts, fitting the joy and happiness of Christmas. You might even say they are “sparkly.”

(“Sparkly” – now there’s a word not often associated with me…)

Each arrangement is about 2 ½ minutes long, ideally suited for opening worship or an orchestra feature. They come complete with full score and parts, as well as parts for the standard “alternate instruments”: bass clarinet, alto & tenor sax, optional piano, and keyboard string reductions.

I hope you enjoy them. More important, I hope these arrangements can be of real use to you and your church orchestra.

You can check them all out (along with my other orchestra arrangements) here.

Thanks for listening!
